Chef/Cook [New Zealand]


 

Job Summary: Cook responsibilities include studying recipes, setting up menus and preparing high-quality food/sandwiches. You should be able to delegate tasks to kitchen staff to ensure meals are prepared in a timely manner. Also, you should be familiar with hygiene regulations and experience in food safety.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Set up the kitchen with cooking utensils and equipment.
  • Must be experienced in moving around the kitchen and apt in multi-tasking.
  • Study each recipe and gather all necessary ingredients.
  • Regulating and know-how of temperatures of Charcoal BBQ, ovens, grills and other cooking equipment.
  • Cook food in a timely manner (based on our standard cooking and dispatching times).
  • Delegate tasks to kitchen staff.
  • Inform wait staff about daily specials and relevant information to be considered.
  • Storing food in temperature-controlled facilities.
  • Slightly modify recipes to meet customers’ needs and requests.
  • Monitor food stock and place orders.
  • Check freshness of food and discard out-of-date items.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area.
  • Vacuum pack, weigh, label and price products.
  • Receive, inspect, record and store goods upon delivery, to ensure product quality.
  • Sharpen and good maintenance to knives, tools and equipment.
  • Provide advice to customers, sell products.
  • Ensure appealing presentation.
  • Look after the uniforms, and always wear it clean and presentable.

Skills, knowledge and competencies required

  • At least 3 years previous experience as a cook in a commercial kitchen.
  • Good communication and self-organization skills.
  • Acceptable level of communication in English.
  • Preserve and enhance with your service our reputation as business.
  • Follow safety and sanitation practices in the kitchen.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: From $29.66 per hour
